We welcome volunteers to work side-by-side with our staff to supervise and mentor shelter residents. Other volunteers share their skills through activities or classes (gardening, crafts, music, yoga), or cook a weekly meal. Help is always needed around the shelter for cleaning, maintenance, and improvement projects. If you are interested, please send us your resume and three references. (You will need to fill out and application form and pass a background check before working with the youth. Call for more information.)

We also use volunteers for fundraising, special events, and writing grant proposals.

Community organizations – such as service clubs, churches, church youth groups, high-school and university student associations – can assist us by holding fund-raisers or organizing volunteer work-days to help maintain the shelter.

Our volunteer Board of Directors works with the Executive Director to keep JSYSI a vital and effective community organization. Board Members are involved in policy development, long-range planning, budgeting, fund-raising, and collaboration with other community organizations and agencies.

The Youth Board comprises local high school students who develop and implement fundraising activities to support the shelter. Activities have included bake sales, car washes, and a benefit 5K run.

Undergraduate and graduate interns from Oregon State University and Linn Benton Community College form an important part of our volunteer workforce.
